Preparing for the move: advice for new students

Post by abby.yao » Sun Jun 26, 2016 1:00 pm

As the latest crop of Mundusians prepare for student life in Europe, I'd like to ask those who have been through it for their input on surviving a new country.

My advice:
1. Keep in touch with people back home. You will need the support of your friends and family throughout this time.
2. Try to still be in the know about your industry so that you won't have trouble reintegrating when you get back.
3. Get to know people in the community who are also from the same country. It's great to be able to speak your native language. If you don't lose it, you will lose it! Also, they will have plenty of tips in adjusting with life in your new environment.
4. If you practice a religion, get in touch with the local community for pastoral support.
5. By all means, play the tourist!

Hope this helps. And yes, please stop by this forum to post your questions, comments and recommendations to fellow EM students. :D

ESN's Student Guidebook for Erasmus students is worth browsing through, though European student-centric. Download it here.
